On the night of 22 to June 23 of this year, it was difficult to sleep in AlmeriaThe city of the city lived a day with the highest minimum temperatures during the month of June of its history 👇
At a temperature that did not go down from 27.1 degrees Celsius, the Andalusian city lived
Tropical night 🌙 – Reality is hot to overcome 25ºC -.
That is, the day when the temperature does not drop with 20ºC.
This is not the only tropical night he suffered this year. In red WITHWITHWITHWITH
You can see the days when the minimum temperature in almeria was above 20ºC from April to June this year.
The fact that Almeria registered tropical nights was ordinary, especially in recent decades …
… But they concentrated in July and August.
Nevertheless, a recent phenomenon is observed: tropical nights arrive earlier and soon. And they did it, especially in 2025.
Even before the beginning of July, Almeria had already registered this year
27 tropical nightsHistorical record 🌡.
And this is not the only city where the summer is moving.
IN Alicante This year, 24 tropical nights have already lived, also beating historical records 🌡 months until July.
If in the 70s there were a maximum of four tropical nights a year before July, in the last decade they have already been reached, 12 over the first half of the year.
The same thing happens in other cities in the south of the peninsula, where tropical nights accumulated this year until June, all previous records were beaten.
IN Seville They already totaled 22 that we were, the first three in May.
And without going to Andalusia, we see what is happening in MalagaField
From June 8, every night in the city of Costa -Dod -Sol was at least 20ºC.
The offensive of summer, which has spread throughout the country.
Honored Professor of the University of Barcelona, Javier Martin, told Eldoorio.es in full heat in Spain: “We have a problem of public health”, especially from minimal temperatures during very high temperatures. “They show us notes at a high level, and this is very important. The minimum temperatures are 25ºC, 26ºC or 27ºC have a serious health effect, because during the day there are more alternatives to the fight against heat, but at night we must rest, and if we have a poor rest. ”
An analysis of the minimum temperatures registered by the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet) at the stations of provincial capitals demonstrates how generalized the night heat of the warmest June in the history of Spain was. And, therefore, these problems indicated by the researcher are activated.
In the first half of the year, 38 out of 52 provincial capitals have already registered a little tropical night. At weather stations located in these cities, days with minimal temperatures above 20ºC exceeded 500, so far. An increase in these tropical nights not only shows the influence of global warming, but also affects health: they make sleep difficult, and several studies indicate an increase in mortality during night heat waves.
Much of what hurts us during the heat begins with the fact that it cannot reconcile a dream from these tropical or hot nights. This is a kind of pyrad in which the most visible peak is a thermal blow, but below is a whole foundation of more invisible conditions, which begins with discomfort, which forces not to glue the eyes.
In cities such as Melilla, Almería, Castellón, Alicante and Málaga, 2025, the year when it was the most difficult from high night temperatures until July. In total, there are 19 provincial capitals who beat the records of tropical nights.
Melilla is a city where the June nights were tropical: until the 26th 30s of the month. In Almeria, Barcelona, Castellon and Cadiz, there were 25 days when the minimums did not fall from 20ºC. Most of them are in a row.
There were also record nights distributed throughout the territory. In 7 provincial capitals, the warmest night was registered for the month of June this year. In the case of Girona, it was a tropical night. In Almeria, Barcelona, Mursia and Toledo, registration was even a hot or equatorial night, the term used when the temperature does not drop with 25ºC. For example, in the Catalan capital this has never been until July.
These records were not so common several years ago, but they multiplied in the last decade. In the city of Castellon, between the 80s to the 2000s, about 5 tropical nights could be lived on average a year before the start of Hulio. Over the past decade (2016-2025) they have already been 13 years old. If we look only for the current year, the record was historical: 26 days with minimal above 20ºC until July.
Although the main reason for this increase is the climate change, as Aemet says, we must also take into account the environmental conditions of meteorological stations. “The growth of the island of heat in large cities significantly contributed to an increase in the number of tropical nights, since the city structure itself prevents the spread of air from a typical night breeze, explaining how“ materials that make up the urban structure, asphalt, traffic, buildings, and contribute to a greater concentration of heat in the city in the city everywhere. ”
Despite this, an increase in heat is also noted in areas, far from large cities, as in the port of Navarrad, 2000 meters in Madrid. Since 1950, there were twenty tropical nights located almost 2000 meters at this weather station. Half of them occurred over the past decade.
This is mainly on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and on the Canary Islands, where an increase in extremely warm nights in the first half of the year was noticed. As Aemet explains, tropical nights “from the great influence of the sea on the temperature of the air of coastal cities occur in these areas. With stable days and the Brissas regime, the most normal situation in the summer in the Mediterranean region, the average temperature is usually very similar to how the sea temperature does. ” It should also be remembered that the Mediterranean Sea also records much higher temperatures than could be expected.
Nevertheless, this phenomenon also reaches sections of the peninsula. In Madrid and Zaragos this year there were already 17 tropical nights than those who lived until July, on average, from 1980 to 2010.
These minimum temperatures become more and more frequent in June, but there are settlements where they are even registered in the spring, which was distributed only in the Canary Islands. This year, Kadis lived the first tropical night on May 27, Jan 28 and Madrid and Seville on the 29th day of the same month. In total, up to twelve provinces, they have already registered minimums of more than 20ºC until May.
But the phenomenon of the night heat does not remain here. Nights were also launched at a minimum temperature not low from 25ºC. The fact that we were registered in 19 hot nights among all meteorological stations of provincial capitals. This is a figure, much higher than any previous year.
This phenomenon, an almost exceptional consequence of human activity, affects the greater, according to Aemet, professor of physical geography of the University of Barcelona, Javier Martin, “in people with chronic diseases and in the verge of poverty, without air conditioners, these nightly values have become a risk of health.”
Night heat also affects mortality: the numbers of the Carlos III Institute, analyzed by Eldiario.es, indicate how deaths shoot during thermal waves in Spain. In June alone, the Momo mortality monitoring system evaluates the excess of about 2,000 deaths at normal. Of these, the institute evaluates that about 500 can be associated with episodes of extreme temperatures. And summer did nothing but the beginning.
