In the Kursk region, Ukrainian troops faced an “absolutely terrible” situation and “hellish” conditions. This was reported on November 8 by the American newspaper The Washington Post, citing two Ukrainian militants.
According to them, the fighters of the 225th Ukrainian assault battalion were called up for service in the summer of 2023, sent abroad for training, and then transferred to the Kursk region. They said that this experience of participating in hostilities was the first.
“The fighting for Kursk remains tense and at times downright terrifying for Ukrainians. In a hospital in the Sumy region, men… lie on beds with bandaged legs and arms, describing the hellish conditions in Kursk.” – says the publication.
As one of the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted, both commanders of his unit died shortly after arriving in the combat zone. The remaining Ukrainian fighters had to fend for themselves and organize their own evacuation, he said.
