The four homicides of the first semester increase the balance of crime in Cordoba

Homicides and murders marked the first half of the year with four cases recorded in the province of Cordoba compared to that recorded only during the same period of 2023, according to the latest Interior Ministry Crime Report which corresponds to the second quarter of 2024 and includes the evolution of crime in Spain during the first six months of the year by the State security forces and agencies (National Police and Civil Guard).

It’s been a semester particularly tragic in terms of intentional homicides and complete murders with four people whose lives were taken, which implies an increase of 300 percent compared to the same period of 2023 in which only one homicide was recorded.

Specifically, the homicides or murders recorded correspond, among others, to two committed in the Levant region last April, or a third on the outskirts of Avenida del Brillante in May.

Between January and June 2024, and compared to the same period in 2023, total crime police registered in Spain increased by 3.0 percent. In the province of Córdoba, the total number of criminal offenses in the first half of the year was 16,215, which represents an increase of 3.8 compared to last year, eight tenths more than the increase of national average.

This latest report published by the Ministry of the Interior reflects an increase in the types of delinquency grouped under the concept of cybercrimeabove all, a sharp increase in scams committed by computer.

The big bag of delinquency that continues to grow the most is that related to cybercrime (criminal offences committed by or through cyber means) with more than 4,013 cases and an increase of 16.2 percent compared to 2023.

Among other crimes against sexual freedom, 93 were recorded following the same trend as in the first half of 2023, with an increase of only 3.3 percent.

Regarding flights with violence and intimidation There were 207 cases, according to the Secretary of State for Security under the Ministry of the Interior, which means that the figure remains practically the same as last year with only a variation of 1.5 percent more.

Regarding the home burglariesestablishments and other establishments, 694 cases occurred with little variation. In fact, one of the most worrying problems in terms of citizen safety is the flights with force in homes and there were 556 cases, which translates to an increase of 16.6 percent compared to 2023.

Attempted homicides are decreasing

Thefts with 3,243 reports decreased by 4.1 percent. homicides and murders At a provisional level, they decreased by 66.7 percent in the first half of the year compared to last year. Regarding vehicle thefts, 147 were recorded in the last six months, 8.1 percent more than the previous period.

For drug-related offences, 78 cases were opened, 4 percent more than in 2023. Added to this is the rest of crime conventional with more than 7,530 complaints, which remains practically the same (an increase of 2.2 percent).
