This is how he takes his son to the CEIP Voramar in Alicante because of a broken elevator

The first day of school was particularly hard for María Jesús and her son Arturo, 11, who weighs 40 kilos. María Jesús has had to carry her son in her arms to his class at CEIP Voramar, in Alicante, since the central elevator is still broken since June. “Last year, we were like this for almost a month,” says the mother, visibly tired.

The elevator, essential for Arturo’s mobility due to his condition, has been out of service for more than three monthswithout the city council having given a date for its renovation. “I usually take my son at least four times a day. On the days he has physical therapy, which is three or four days a week, I take him up to eight times. The alternative is to leave him at home, and that’s not something I’m going to do,” says María Jesús, who faces this reality without help.

This is not the first time this has happened.. Last January, the elevator was out of order for a month before being repaired, but in June it broke down again. For the family, the situation is becoming untenable. “It’s a recurring theme, and even if you think it’s temporary, in the end it seems to perpetuate itself. You get tired of it,” he says.

The school management confirmed that There is no deadline set by the city hall for the repair or replacing the elevator, which is more than 30 years old. In the meantime, they are considering restructuring the classes so that Arturo can attend them more comfortably. However, uncertainty continues to mark the return to school for María Jesús and her son.
