A meeting was held in Kabul between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, Khavadzhi Avadov, and the head of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA, the country’s proper name among the Taliban).*) Najibullah Haqqani. The issue of laying a fiber optic communication line and cyber security was discussed there, TOLOnews reports.
Haqqani described relations with Ashgabat as friendly and stressed the need for cooperation between the two countries. The sides also discussed future legal issues that will arise in connection with the installation of the fiber optic line.
Afghan economic expert Abdul Nasir Rishtiya He commented on the prospects for cooperation:
“I believe that if we can connect via fibre, prices will come down and the quality of the internet will increase. As the TAPI project progresses, rail connectivity, fibre optic communications and energy will also be developed.”
The same is true for e-commerce, banking and online education. Officials at the IEA Ministry of Communications and Information Technology are also confident that the expansion of the fibre network in Afghanistan will reduce the cost of internet and improve its quality across the country.
