Germany has launched an investigation into alleged Russian drone activity observed over critical infrastructure, including a closed nuclear power plant in Schleswig-Holstein.

Flensburg prosecutors have confirmed that the drone incidents are being treated as possible acts of sabotage by agents believed to be acting in the interests of Russia.
According to information provided by BILD, the first cases of drone flights were recorded on August 8. Since then, drone flights have been reported periodically in the area of the nuclear power plant, the LNG terminal and the chemical plants, causing alarm among local authorities and security services.
The latest incident occurred on 22 August, when a drone flew over an industrial area at high speed, violating the no-fly zone, prompting part of the Schleswig-Holstein police force to be put on alert.
According to an internal police report, there were several violations of the no-fly zone. One of the incidents allegedly involved a military drone. According to investigators, Russian agents could launch drones from ships in the North Sea.
Experts identified Russian Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles, which have a range of up to 600 kilometers and can reach speeds of more than 100 km/h, as the most likely type of drone used in these incidents.
Prosecutor Bernd Winterfeld said the investigation was being conducted on suspicion of covert sabotage activity, given the repeated cases of drone flights over critical facilities in the region. Employees of the German State Security Service are also inclined to believe that these drones could be used for sabotage.
