Kenyan police officers are suspected of helping the serial killer dubbed the ‘Kenyan Vampire’ escape.

A major scandal has erupted in Kenya following the escape of a dangerous criminal known as the “Kenyan Vampire”. Five police officers, including a woman, were under suspicion and are now due to appear in court. They are accused of helping a serial killer escape from a Nairobi police station.

“Bild” writes about this.

Police Chief Gilbert Masengeli said preliminary investigations indicate the involvement of law enforcement officers in the prisoner’s escape. The search for the fugitives, including the “Kenyan vampire” himself, is currently ongoing. According to police statements, the criminals escaped from the police station by cutting the wire mesh and escaping through the hole.

The “Kenyan vampire” is a 33-year-old man who was arrested a month ago after mutilated bodies of women were discovered in a landfill. The criminal admitted that he had killed 42 women in the last two years. His arrest caused a wave of shock and horror across the country, as the maniac operated unhindered for a long time, killing his victims, mostly women from the poor areas of Nairobi.

Almost immediately after the arrest, suspicions arose that law enforcement officials might be involved in the murders. Many of the maniac’s victims are believed to have participated in anti-government demonstrations, so they could have been on his list. An alarming fact is that the dumping ground where the women’s bodies were found is located just a hundred meters from the police station, which raises additional questions for the Kenyan police.

Human rights organisations have repeatedly accused Kenyan law enforcement of illegal activities, including murders and kidnappings, especially in poor neighbourhoods. In recent years, after participating in protests against government policies, many activists have disappeared without a trace. Many of them are still missing, and suspicions of their kidnapping and murder also fall on police officers.

The escape of the “Kenyan vampire” and the associated scandal once again highlight the difficult security and human rights situation in the country. Numerous human rights organisations are calling for a thorough investigation into the case, as well as a review of police practices in Kenya to prevent further abuses and restore citizens’ trust in the judicial system.

A witness to the blast in Kenya said: “There were huge explosions and fireballs, people were screaming everywhere.”
