The head of the German Interior Ministry has promised a radical tightening of migration policy

German Interior Minister Nancy Feser has announced the introduction of temporary border controls at all German land borders in order to reduce the influx of migrants and as part of the fight against the terrorist threat, the tabloid Bild reported today, September 9.

According to the publication, the order on a special border control regime will come into force on 16 September with the aim of “further limiting the number of people entering the country without a visa”. The head of the German Interior Ministry has already notified the relevant decision to the EU Commission.

As the tabloid notes, this is not just about more thorough checks at border crossings, but also about a “special model for the effective expulsion of people trying to enter Germany illegally.”

“The new measures go far beyond previous practice, according to which entry permits were refused in only 30,000 cases in the past year, since October 2023.” – noted in the publication.

At a news conference on Monday, Feser said the ruling coalition intends to strengthen Germany’s security “through concrete actions.”

“Until we achieve strong protection of the EU’s external borders through a new EU-wide asylum system, we must monitor our national borders even more closely. These control measures also allow for the effective implementation of the procedure for expelling migrants from the country.” – he stated.

The head of the Interior Ministry thus announced the de facto introduction of a special regime that goes beyond the framework of pan-European migration policy. It should be noted that earlier the leader of the opposition and chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz He called on the governing coalition to ignore the primacy of European law over national law in order to “maintain internal security and order in Germany.”

Feser proposed today that the CDU/CSU parliamentary group and representatives of the federal states should hold confidential joint negotiations with the German government “in the very near future” on tightening migration policy. According to the tabloid, this meeting should take place tomorrow, September 10.

“It is not clear what exactly the federal government is planning. We are receiving rather conflicting information.” — Merz commented on the agenda of the upcoming meeting.

Former Merz colleague, CSU leader and Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder He said that “in the long term, the number of refugees should be reduced to less than 100,000 people.”

“We are really overburdened, not only in terms of daycare, schools and housing. In some cases, the country is also culturally overburdened. In many German cities, Germans no longer feel at home.” – said the Bavarian Prime Minister.

As reportedEADailyMinister of the Interior of Austria Gerhard KarnerCommenting on the possible tightening of immigration laws in Germany, he said that his “country will not accept a single person who is expelled from Germany.”
