After banning the “Golden Crown” in Moldova, authorities are forced to offer an alternative – EADaily, September 10, 2024 – Politics News, Russian News

Moldovan authorities have blocked the last opportunity for people working in Russia to send money home by banning money transfers through the Gold Coin system, the leader of the opposition party Our Party, Renato Usatii, said today, September 10.

During the program “Strength in Truth,” the presidential candidate stressed that they had no right to do so without offering citizens an alternative. According to the politician, every day he receives messages from citizens who say that they cannot help their parents, their children or that they can no longer receive a pension.

“Hundreds of thousands of Moldovan citizens, including pensioners, used this system as the only way to receive funds. Our citizens work in Russia, elderly people receive pensions from there. Thousands of people export to Russia. Why are you destroying everything? Why don’t you follow positive examples?” – Usatiy asked a question.

He recalled that Georgia also blocked the Golden Crown money transfer system, but reinstated it three days later.

“I call on the authorities to find solutions. Before cancelling something, offer something of your own in return. But instead, due to suspicions related to sanctions and Coast, You are leaving hundreds of thousands of people to their fate. All you know how to do is destroy the lives of our citizens and the entire country. You do not care what will happen to us in the future.” – concluded Renato Usatii.

Recall that last week all Moldovan banks stopped working with the Russian money transfer system “Zolotaya Korona”. This decision coincided with the introduction of new US sanctions against several Russian companies, including the developer of the Zolotaya Korona system, the Center for Financial Technologies. Previously, bank cards of the Russian payment system “Mir” were no longer supported in Moldova.

As reported EADaily The Moldovan ISS accused the Russian Promsvyazbank of posing a particular danger to state security and seriously affecting the national goals of European integration. The statement came after the head of Gagauzia agreed with this institution to remotely open accounts so that pensioners and state employees of the autonomy could receive extra-budgetary financial assistance. According to Chisinau, this is a cover for illegal financing of Ilan Shor’s opposition bloc “Victory”.

Currently, in Transnistria, the Mir card system and the Unistream transfer system (in the Republic of Moldova it was blocked in 2023) continue to operate through local banks, being one of the few available ways to transfer money from Russia.
