The former president of the Community of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, imitating with an Andalusian accent some alleged statements of the first vice-president of the government and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, about the Catalan quota, has set social networks ablaze and aroused the ire of the opposition parties to Juan Manuel Moreno in the Andalusian autonomous community.
The spokesman for Adelante Andalucía, José Ignacio García, called for Aguirre’s “condemnation” in the regional parliament for “making fun of the Andalusian accent” and considered the statements of a historic leader of the PP “regrettable” because of “our way of saying: ‘Nobody gets upset, regardless of the party.'”
For García, the Prime Minister and the Andalusian PP should come out today to “paint the face of this lady and defend the Andalusians”. “If a Catalan politician had done that on TV3, today we would have an extraordinary call from Mr. Moreno Bonilla and he would activate his entire propaganda machine”, he said. “But as a Madrid leader of the Popular Party did, they will say absolutely nothing here”, according to García, for whom, Moreno, “cares more about the party card”.
Aguirre’s protests also provoked a reaction from the PSOE-A’s secretary general, Juan Espadas, who said that Juanma Moreno “knows well” that the PP has “a long tradition of classist disrespect for our Andalusian accent and, in general, for our culture and our idiosyncrasy.
“Unfortunately, the insult and disqualification of those who do not think like you is done every day, but that makes it even more regrettable,” said Juan Espadas on the social network X, where he accompanies this message with the video of Aguirre’s statements.
Likewise, the general coordinator of the IU, Toni Valero, criticized Juanma Moreno, also through a message in “His chest beating with the Andalusian flag is a pure imposture.”
