Monique Olivier taken into police custody as part of investigation into the disappearance of Cécile Vallin in 1997

Monique Olivier, the ex-wife of serial killer Michel Fourniret, was taken into police custody on the morning of Tuesday 10 September as part of the investigation into the disappearance in Savoy of Cécile Vallin in 1997, Agence France has learned from a source close to the matter, confirming information from Parisian.

Cécile Vallin was last seen on June 8, 1997 at 6 p.m. on a departmental road leaving Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (Savoie), heading towards Chambéry. With her disappearance, the Michel Fourniret case was reopened following the testimony of Monique Olivier at his trial in December 2023, at the end of which she was sentenced to life imprisonment for three murders committed by Michel Fourniret.

Contacted by The Parisian, Monique Olivier’s lawyer, M.my Richard Delgenes, “He is surprised by this police arrest in such conditions. They called me while Mme Olivier was already in police custody, more than three hours drive from my office. So I can’t go there. This seems counterproductive to me because it is true that Mme Olivier will be reluctant to speak out in these circumstances. However, recent cases have shown that she agreed to cooperate with justice when the conditions were met.
