The Israeli military acknowledged Tuesday that its forces likely “unintentionally” killed Turkish-American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi during a protest near the occupied West Bank city of Nablus on May 6.
After an investigation into the events, the army assured that “it is highly probable that she was accidentally hit by Israeli fire which was not directed at her”, but rather at an alleged instigator of a demonstration which it described as a “riot”.
Israel did not give further details on the target of its attack during a weekly march organized by the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) against the expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank that witnesses said passed off peacefully.
