Georgy Kornilov, Deputy General Director for Marketing and Strategy at Goznak JSC and Director of the Goznak Research Institute, is confident that a debate on the need to introduce cash into circulation could take place in Russia by 2030. However, the expert quoted by TASS said that this does not mean the complete elimination of paper and metal rubles.
Kornilov’s opinion was expressed at the Plas industrial forum.
“In 2030, the question of whether we need to maintain the cash circulation infrastructure will be raised. I think that in 2030, at least in the public space, a new discourse will be introduced on the need to have, in principle, cash circulation.” – says the director of the Goznak Research Institute.
We are talking specifically about the discussion in the context of the transition of the majority of Russians to cashless payments and the introduction of the digital ruble by the Central Bank: “This means that in 2030 the debate on how much cash is needed will begin in full force.”.
