Norway’s embassy in Afghanistan is set to close. The move comes after the Taliban said they no longer recognise diplomatic missions set up by the previous government, including Norway’s.
According to the Azad Iran Telegram channel, the Norwegian embassy, which is under the control of the Afghan government, issued a statement on the matter.
The diplomatic mission is reportedly set to close on September 12. According to them, legal problems arose for the embassy after the Taliban declared consular activities of political entities that did not cooperate with them invalid.
“Norwegian Foreign Ministry officials have assessed the content of the Taliban’s statement as a legal issue and consider it binding. Although it has been announced that the embassy building will be handed over to the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, it is not clear whether the Oslo official will hand over the building to the Taliban,” the embassy said.
