CAS stripped Russia of third gold at 2014 Sochi Olympics – EADaily, September 10, 2024 – Society. News, Russian news

The appeals of Russian athletes Evgeniy Ustyugov and Svetlana Sleptsova have been rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the Biathlon Integrity Unit (BIU) has announced.

Consequently, the achievements Evgenia Ustyugova from 27 August 2013 until the end of her career in the cancelled 2013/14 season, including her deprivation of gold at the 2014 Olympic Games, won as part of the relay team.

As a result, Russia lost its first place in the overall team standings at the Sochi Games. The Norwegian team is leading the medal table (11 gold, 5 silver and 11 bronze medals).

Russian team (yes, then it was the Russians who performed, with the flag, the anthem and the coat of arms of the country, which is almost impossible to imagine now – Bark.) With 10 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 9 bronze medals, it falls to second place, third place is occupied by the Canadian team (10-10-5).

This is the third gold medal that has been taken away from the Russians at the Sochi Games. Previously, the IOC disciplinary commission headed by Denis Osvaldo sleds deprived of gold medals Alexandra Zubkova AND Alexey Voevoda, winners of two-man competitions, as well as Alexey Negodaylo AND Dmitri Trunenkovwho, together with Zubkov and Voevoda, won four-way.

In principle, the CAS verdict can be appealed to the Swiss Federal Court, which, if procedural violations are identified, will refer the case for review. But the chances of a positive decision are slim to none.

Three-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina commented on the long-awaited CAS decision:

“Well, in terms of the number of places selected, we actually lost. Because the calculations were made by medals, medals were selected and the points were transferred to other athletes and teams.

Is this decision fair? I’ll tell you again, have you studied mathematics? That’s all! What other point of view could there be? Political? There are objective indicators, such as the athlete’s results in doping tests, on the basis of which decisions are made. In connection with the decision made, medals and places are left or taken away and passed on to others. What else is there? Pure mathematics.”

Honored Coach of the USSR Tatiana Tarasova He responded more excitedly to the sad news:

“Ten years have passed. The inspectors were foreigners. It turns out that they are not very good specialists! Why did they find something ten years later that did not exist? Why the hell?”

I don’t understand how this can happen. After every competition, a doping test is carried out. We don’t take these samples ourselves. I can’t understand what’s going on! Do they really want to drown us? It turns out that they are drowning us and we are drowning with pleasure.

“Don’t we have anything to answer for? We need to take some measures to protect our athletes. Because Russian sport does not depend on doping!”

Meanwhile, the German Ski Federation (DSV) also responded to the decision in the anti-doping rule violation case:

“Gold – 10 years later! After four years of uncertainty, the CAS has made its final decision: the German men’s relay team Eric Lesser, Daniel Boehm, Arnd Peiffer AND Simone Shempa will receive an Olympic gold medal in Sochi 2014. We retroactively congratulate our men on their Olympic victory and look forward to many more fair (!) relay moments in the future.”
