Labor suspends Monday’s meeting on working time reduction to focus on DANA and after CEOE’s ‘no’

The Ministry of Labor suspended the meeting planned for this Monday with social agents to address the reduction of working hours. Joaquín Pérez Rey, Secretary of State for Labor, explained that the decision was made to focus all efforts on aid to the territories affected by DANA.

The meeting aimed to obtain a “definitive yes or no” to the proposal to reduce working hours weekly from 40 to 37.5 hours. However, the CEOE and Cepyme had already advanced their rejection of the measure. Employers consider that the reduction in working hours represents an “interference in the autonomy of collective bargaining”.

In an interview with RNE, Pérez Rey criticized the CEOE’s position, saying it does not adequately represent business interests.. “He does not adequately represent the business interests of this country, but rather plays politics and this veto is more ideological than real,” criticized the number two by Yolanda Diaz.

The Secretary of State invited employers to reconsider your refusal and participate in the conclusion of a deal. “If they don’t want to be left out of what will be one of the most important labor reforms in our history, I think they should really stand up for corporate interests and abandon their ideological and political positions,” concluded Pérez Rey.
