“Budapest could be a place for signing a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.”
Oku.AzAccording to Armenian media, these words were spoken by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijártó during the round table discussion “Geopolitics of Interdependence: From Competition to Cooperation” held within the framework of the International Forum “Iranian Dialogue”.
He stressed that wars never end on the battlefield, but rather behind the negotiating table.
According to Siyarto, Hungary can play an important role in establishing peace in the South Caucasus region.
“We are in a position to negotiate with both sides of this conflict,” the minister said.
He recalled that diplomatic relations between Armenia and Hungary were restored two years ago and drew attention to the changes that have taken place since then.
“We opened our embassy here in Yerevan. Armenia opens its embassy in Budapest,” he added.
“Meanwhile, we maintain strategic cooperation with Azerbaijan, strategic cooperation in the fields of energy, oil and gas. This puts us in a position where we can help the process of concluding a peace agreement between the two countries. In my recent talks with both of them, “The signing of the peace agreement in the peaceful capital of a peaceful country is the fundamental help we can offer,” said Peter Siyarto.
