Afundación celebrates its tenth anniversary with a “simultaneous” exhibition in the seven Galician cities

Afundación, Abanca’s social work, will organize an exhibition, entitled “Simultánea”, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his birth. The initiative will present to the public a total of 350 works from its collection, of which more than 200 Galician artists are the authors. of the last two centuries. The exhibition will open simultaneously on October 9 at the Afundación headquarters in La Coruña, Ferrol, Lugo, Orense, Pontevedra, Santiago and Vigo.

The exhibition was presented this Tuesday, in the city of Hercules, by the president of the Afundación, Miguel Ángel Escotet, who clarified that the exhibition was conceived “to celebrate with all of Galicia the richness of a heritage that belongs to it.” The art collection of the Afundación is made up of more than 5,000 works and offers, as reported this Tuesday in a press release, a broad vision of Galician art from the end of the 19th century to the present day, to which must be added a remarkable selection of Portuguese works of art and Spanish creation.

The curator of “Simultánea” is Paloma Vela, deputy coordinator of the cultural sector of Afundación. In the presentation, Vela explained that the sample is “a proposal of an unprecedented dimension and one of the most ambitious exhibition projects of those that have occurred in Galicia in recent years. A multidisciplinary team has worked on the construction of these seven views and the coordination of more than twenty companies that have participated in its conservation, design or transport.

Each of the seven exhibitions of “Simultánea” presents a different reading of the art collection of the Obra Social Abanca, with the aim of offering an approach to the creations of three different centuries, delimited by the oldest piece, a Villaamil from 1827, and the most current, a photo by Xurxo Gómez Chao, an installation by Pilar Alonso and a sculpture by Din Matamoro, all dating from 2011.

At the headquarters in La Coruña, the “portrait mode” will be exhibited, which will allow visitors to discover the use of this genre as a means of delving deeper into the human soul. Ferrol, in the “contemporary and domestic object”, will exhibit works dedicated to the family environment of human beings. In Lugo, “scenes of the coast and the open sea” will be exhibited. In Orense, there will be works in which art focuses its gaze on nature. In Pontevedra, it will be dedicated to abstract language. The one in Santiago will reflect on the relationship between architecture and the city, and the one in Vigo on the concept of fantasy.
