More than 140 immigrants arrive this Sunday in El Hierro and Gran Canaria

More than 140 immigrants arrived this Sunday on the island of El Hierro. They did it on two different boats. Early this morning, a cayuco arrived with 74 people on board. He had left a few days ago from somewhere on the sub-Saharan coast, emergency service sources told Europa Press.

On Saturday shortly before midnight, the Civil Guard informed the Tenerife Maritime Rescue Coordination Center of a navigational echo, a possible cayuco, 8 miles (about 13 km) from La Restinga. After that, the maritime controllers mobilized the maritime guard Talía, who located the ship and escorted it to port. Around 4:45 a.m., 74 sub-Saharan Africans were disembarked there, including five women.

Once on land, they benefited from the assistance of the health system deployed on the quay. Later in the afternoon, another notification was received from the Civil Guard of the Tenerife Maritime Rescue Coordination Center regarding a possible canoe approximately 11.2 kilometers from La Restinga. After locating him, the Salvamar escorted him to port, where 69 other immigrants landed.

Beyond El Hierro, another boat, this time with five people on boardall of sub-Saharan origin, arrived this Sunday on the island of Gran Canaria. He left a few days ago from somewhere on the African coast, according to official Maritime Rescue sources cited by Europa Press.

In this case, the alert occurred around 4:30 p.m., when the Red Cross informed the Las Palmas rescue center of the sighting of a boat less than a mile from the coast, in front of the lighthouse of Maspalomas.

Maritime controllers mobilized the Macondo Salvamar, which rescued the five occupants of the boat, all adult men, and disembarked them in Arguineguín.
