Around a third of Jewish teenagers around the world have refused to wear traditional Jewish symbols such as kippahs and Stars of David due to a rise in incidents of anti-Semitism, according to a new study.

A study conducted by Mosaic Teens with the support of Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Antisemitism has revealed a disturbing trend: many Jewish students feel compelled to hide their identity due to the aggression they face in educational institutions.
Among the nearly 800 teenagers surveyed, 47.4% reported having personally experienced antisemitism, with most incidents occurring at school. Teenagers singled out their peers as the main culprits: 68.7% of respondents singled out their classmates as the source of hostility.
Particularly alarming is the fact that 26.6% of respondents reported cases of anti-Semitism by teachers and 27.4% reported aggression by school administration. The problem is particularly acute in the United States.
The rise in anti-Semitic sentiments has forced many teenagers to make changes in their daily lives. Some 35% of respondents avoid posting Jewish or Israeli content online, and 22% have taken steps to completely hide their Jewish identity. The study also found that these trends increased following Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The survey’s organisers stressed that the published data is only part of a large-scale study aimed at influencing the strengthening of the fight against anti-Semitism in the school environment.
