Judge summons Sofía Pacchi, key witness in Alberto Fernández and Fabiola Yáñez case, to testify

Argentine prosecutor summoned this Tuesday a key witness in the investigation into the alleged sexist violence of former President Alberto Fernández (2019-2023), reported by his ex-partner, Fabiola Yanezfor next September 12th.

The first two witnesses, journalist Alicia Barrios and María Cantero, Fernández’s former secretary, appeared on August 22.

Barrios, who according to Yáñez knew the couple’s daily life in Quinta de Olivos well and was aware of the alleged attacks, told the prosecutor that there had been “emotional violence” And “psychological abuse” by Fernandez against his ex-partner, but said he did not witness any acts of physical violence.

For her part, Cantero acknowledged that the text messages between her and Yáñez that detailed the alleged attacks were true, although when asked if she had discussed the matter with Fernández, she said no. “because it was a matter of privacy.”

Cantero also confirmed in his statement the veracity of the photos of Yáñez allegedly beaten found on the cell phone of Fernández’s former collaborator and He called the former first lady a “victim.”

In addition to Pacchi, who has already received his appointment today for September 12, Federico Saavedra, former head of the medical unit of the presidential residence, who will appear in court on September 5, is called to testify; and Miriam Yáñez Verdugo, mother of Fernández’s ex-partner.

The prosecution is awaiting authorization from the Spanish Ministry of Justice for the mother of the former first lady to testify at the Argentine consulate in Madrid, the city where she resides with her daughter and grandson.

Following Yáñez’s complaint on August 6, the prosecutor charged Fernández with the alleged crime of serious injuries doubly aggravated by the relationship and for having taken place in a context of gender violence and coercive threats to the detriment of his ex-partner.
