Restrictions have been introduced in two US states due to the deadly virus – Daily Mail

Two US states, Massachusetts and Vermont, have imposed restrictions due to the deadly virus, which kills one in three people infected, the Daily Mail reports.

Vermont just became the second state to postpone public events in an effort to slow the spread of the deadly virus in the state. It joins neighboring Massachusetts in enacting restrictions amid the spread of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).

“This rare disease is transmitted by mosquitoes and can cause brain swelling, vomiting, seizures and death in about 30 percent of human cases.” – the article says.

Evening and nighttime activities have been postponed in Vermont, and the Department of Health is “strongly recommending” people in some of the state’s busiest cities stay home between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., when insects are most active.

“Although the virus is rare, it has already claimed one life in New England this year. 41 years Stephen Perryfather of four, died after contracting the virus in New Hampshire last week. He became the first person in New Hampshire to be infected with the virus in a decade,” the paper writes.

Curfews had previously been announced in several Massachusetts counties. Sports games, picnics and other late-summer events were postponed across the state.
