A total of 4,096 useful square meters covered, divided between the ground floor and the first floor, this is what the Buztintxuri Sports Center to the neighborhood and to the entire population of Pamplona.
This new sports infrastructure is in fact the largest among the municipal sports centers in the city. Located in the Victor Eusa Streetnext to the public school and the Buztintxuri Kindergartenbehind the REFENA premises, required an investment of 8,518,487.36 euros and 20 months of work.
The Mayor of Pamplona, Joseba Asirón Sáezand members of the Municipal Corporation participated in the inauguration ceremony of this new sports and neighborhood meeting space which was held this afternoon.
Neighborhood groups also joined in the celebration, with a kalejira made up of the neighborhood giants troupe, bagpipers, txistularis and other groups, which roamed the streets from Buztintxuri Community Center at the new sports center. After the inauguration and the visit of the facilities, various sports and artistic exhibitions took place.
He new sports center It was a constant demand of this neighborhood, since it took its first steps at the beginning of the 21st century. The growing population and the lack of covered spaces to practice sports in the area made this infrastructure necessary, the work on which began in September 2022.
The aim was to meet the demands of the CPEIP Buztintxurito be able to teach there Physical education classes for kindergarten and primary school students and organize exhibitions and activities. It is not for nothing that the sports center was built next to the educational center and a pedestrian connection was made with the school playground, to facilitate access for schoolchildren.
The building has 3,125.65 m² on the ground floor and an additional 970.35 m² on the first floor. Access to the sports center is via a large porch from the Victor Eusa Streetin the area near educational centers.
Most of the space on the ground floor is occupied by a central court of 53×32 meters (surface 1,696 m²) for the practice of sport, training, exhibitions and matches. These are in fact the dimensions of a “Grand Pavillon” in its most basic version. The City Hall has made a modification to the project to replace the sidewalk of this central court, so that wheel sports can be practiced there and thus further open up the sports offer to citizens.
He rest of space The ground floor is divided into an entrance hall and access control, two specialized rooms (one for activities and the other for equipment) of 220 square meters each, changing rooms and storage rooms for sports equipment.
Indoor walking and running classes
One of the main novelties of this infrastructure, besides its size, is the creation on the first floor of a a 190 meter long walking/running circuit around the main track, with a ramp area and a possible gymnastics machine area. This indoor circuit and its urban gym are unique in Navarre.
That first floor of the building It also houses the stands, with a capacity of 308 people, and the installation rooms necessary for the operation of the infrastructure.
The work, carried out by Guillén Works and Projectsfollowed the design carried out by the team formed by OM ARQ SLP (Oscar Mongay and Maite Mariezcurrena, architects), NAVEN Facilities Engineering and the technical architect Magdalena Bengoechea Felipe. From the beginning, this building was conceived as a large, intelligent, sustainable and efficient pavilion, with a unique and attractive image integrated into the environment, with three large skylights that provide greater natural lighting and avoid excessive overheating.
The largest photovoltaic installation in a building in Pamplona
In this commitment to sustainability and efficiency, the Buztintxuri sports center houses on its roof the the largest photovoltaic installation located in a building in Pamplonawith 912 photovoltaic modules and a peak power of 414.96 kWp.
The aim is that the energy generated is used to meet energy needs of a space like this, whose consumption is high, due to its dimensions and the number of hours of use. However, it is expected that more energy will be produced than necessary for operation, so the surplus will be shared with the nursery school and neighboring schools.
In addition, the building is characterized by three large skylights with northwest orientationwhich coincide with the three transverse tracks into which the central track can be divided. In this way, greater natural lighting is obtained and excessive overheating is avoided.
The façade system designed from prefabricated sheet metal panels and thermal insulation also allows to combine optimal hygrothermal behavior, high impact resistance and low maintenance. At the windows of the north-east façade, which faces the Victor Eusa Streetvertical slats were installed for solar control and to provide privacy on the ground floor.
In general, all the solutions adopted are energy saving objective thanks to the adoption of passive strategies (high thermal insulation and solar control elements, ventilation with heat recovery, high air tightness) as well as the use of renewable energies (aerothermics and photovoltaics), in addition to a rational construction with correct implementation and orientation.
Across the incorporation of passive solar systems and renewable energy sources, a significant reduction in energy consumption and minimization of CO2 emissions during the useful life of the building were sought. It is a building with minimal consumption, without the combustion of fossil fuels, since there are no boilers of any kind.
So that citizens know the qualities of the building, its sustainable commitment and its usesInformation panels have been installed and educational screens will soon be installed to show how this installation works.
School, clubs and associations
Although the sports center goes hand in hand with the educational community of The CPEIP Buztintxuri school, its APYMA and the neighborhood sports clubsto whom it offers a space to teach physical education and extracurricular classes, this infrastructure is open to the entire neighborhood of Pamplona. In this sense, the sports center can also be used by other clubs and sports associations for sporting purposes, or even by individuals.
Furthermore, it is also proposed that this new space could cover some of the city’s sporting needsfor example, for the use of some federated sports clubs with headquarters in other neighborhoods in modalities such as basketball, indoor soccer, rhythmic gymnastics and martial arts, among others. In the future, and after the corresponding assessment of needs and demands, the possibility of offering municipal sports courses in its facilities will be considered.
This new infrastructure is thus added to the network of eight municipal sports centers distributed in the different neighborhoods of the city: Arrosadía, Azpilagaña, Ermitagaña, Ezkaba, José María Iribarren, Mendillorri, Rochapea and San Jorge.
