The film “Red” by director Semyon Serzin about the Ural poet Boris Ryzhy has not received a new distribution certificate and will not be released on September 12 as planned; this was announced by the rental company “Pioneer”.
“The issuance of a new rental certificate has been refused. Dear colleagues and friends, we are very sorry,” the message reads.
In early September, screenings of the film in several Russian cities were cancelled. Thus, shows in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk were not held. All venues where the film was scheduled to be shown reported that the screenings were cancelled for reasons beyond their control.
Pioneer said that “there are some issues with the film, but we cannot comment on them yet.” It also noted that “there are issues with the rental certificate, but they can be fixed.”
The Zakuliska Telegram channel writes that there were no prerequisites for not issuing a rental certificate for the official launch on September 12.
“Everything is much simpler and more unpleasant. Honestly,” – says the publication.
It is clarified that a series of “pre-release screenings” will be held from September 3 to 11.
“A dozen screenings in different places, and all without permission. These are public exhibitions. Some screenings with tickets sold. All of this, unfortunately, is a violation of the law. The rules are the same for everyone.” — explains the telegram channel.
Boris Ryzhy was born in Chelyabinsk in 1974 and later moved to Yekaterinburg. He worked as a junior researcher at the Institute of Geophysics. Red’s poems were published in many literary magazines. In 2001, when the poet was 26 years old, he committed suicide.
The film “Red” by Semyon Serzin tells the story of young poets of the 1990s in Yekaterinburg who are trying to make a living through literary creativity.
