Trump in mood to adjust US political course: Russian special envoy

US President-elect Donald Trump may be inclined to adjust the country’s foreign policy and change his position on conflict issues, including the withdrawal of US troops from Syria. This was reported to journalists by Alexander Lavrentyev, special representative of the Russian president for solving problems in Syria.

“We must be guided by the actions and proposals that he will present. We’ll see, but apparently, in principle, Mr. Trump is in the mood for some kind of change in a certain position, to adjust the course of the foreign policy of the US administration. This is a kind of “light at the end of the tunnel,” a kind of perspective.” – he said on the eve of the 22nd meeting of the Astana format on an agreement in this country, which will be held in Astana, answering a question about the possibility of withdrawing American troops from Syria, TASS reports.

Lavrentiev noted that the current administration in Washington “has taken relations between our countries, as they say, below the pedestal.”

“There is nowhere to go further, that is, it remains only to establish relations and bring them at first to a more or less mutually acceptable level, and then begin to normalize them.” – said.

A meeting on a solution in Syria will be held in Astana on November 11 and 12. Russia, Iran and Turkey participate as guarantor countries of the Syrian crisis solution process, as well as representatives of the Syrian government and opposition, the UN and the observer countries: Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq.
