Oku.Az This was reported by Simon Steele, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, at the opening of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku.
“It is here, in Baku, that we must begin the activity of international carbon markets, completing the agreement on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement,” stressed S. Steele.
The presidency of the COP passed to Azerbaijan.
Oku.Az reports that at the official opening ceremony of the COP29 event, the President of COP28, the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sultan Ahmed Al-Jabiri, spoke first.
In his speech, he handed over the COP presidency to Azerbaijan and congratulated Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, on his election as COP29 president.
