The Xunta de Galicia will assume 60% of the increase in the Sogama fee. Specifically, these are: 42 euros per ton more than what municipalities would have to start paying on January 1, 2025, caused by the application of state taxes on, among other things, activities such as waste incineration, reaching the sum of 108 euros.
This was announced on Wednesday by the head of the regional executive, Alfonso Rueda, during his appearance in the Galician parliament before the questions of the nationalist spokesperson, Ana Pontón, affirming that “Galicians should not pay for Pedro Sánchez’s decisions“Pedro Sánchez, between tax increases and their early elimination, without notice and not respecting the bonus agreements that existed, will force the municipalities, and then the Galicians, to have to pay around 40 euros more per ton.” Something that the Xunta “will avoid”, by transferring 60% of this increase to the 295 municipalities that manage their waste with Sogama.
In concrete terms, this is an increase of 42 euros, to reach 108 euros per tonne. Of this figure, with the aim of reducing the economic burden on municipalities, The regional executive will assume 24 eurosadding 12 euros to the bonus already currently planned, of 12 euros more. “Honestly, I think that’s what people are looking for,” he said. Thus, knowing that Sogama manages about a million tons of waste per year, the Xunta would take charge of 24 million euros from next year.
