Kazakhstan has proposed introducing criminal liability from the age of 12, “like in Great Britain”

In Kazakhstan, the age of criminal responsibility for certain crimes should be lowered to 12 years, said MP Maharram Maharramov at a parliamentary meeting.

The MP cited the example of Great Britain, where the minimum age of criminal responsibility corresponds to the specified figure.

“We believe that violence must be eradicated at the root, but today the aggressors, because of their young age, go unpunished. We, the legislators, should probably follow the example of Great Britain, revise the age threshold from which criminal liability begins for some crimes, establishing liability not from the age of 14, but from the age of 12, for example, in cases of rape.” – said.

He also proposed highlighting legal education for minors as a special method of prevention and committing to informing minors.

In his opinion, bullying, violence, the idealization of banditry and criminal lifestyle, rooted in schools, are the source of widespread violence, deaths and accidents that lead to the disability of healthy and strong men in the Kazakh army.
