Azerbaijani journalist sentenced to 13 years in prison for “spying for Russia”

Nazaket Mamedova, a resident of Azerbaijan, was convicted by a Baku court of high treason and espionage for Russia.

According to musavat.com, the court sentenced Mamedova, 46, to 13 years in prison for alleged collaboration with Russian intelligence services.

According to the prosecution, Mamedova, “acting under the guise” of being a political scientist and journalist, ran the Alfa TV channel on YouTube, which published “pro-Russian materials.” The prosecution claims that the creation of this channel, the organization of interviews and the distribution of certain materials were part of their illegal activities. The prosecution alleged that the woman had allegedly received money from the Russian secret services.

As tsargrad.tv writes about this, “Russia received an unexpected stab in the back from Azerbaijan.” The media characterize Mamedova as “the only journalist who tried to cover the Northern Military District not only from the Ukrainian side.” Now, presenting the unpleasant truth about the motives of the special operation automatically makes you a “Russian spy,” the publication notes.

“Actually, Mamedova went to Moscow, but not for secret spy meetings, but for quite open conferences, in which the political scientist participated as a guest. And the funds that arrived on your card were ordinary fees and travel expenses.” – says the message.
