The Ministry of Culture announced this Monday Laila Ripoll as the new director of the National Classical Theater Company (CNTC). Ripoll replaces Lluís Homar, who left his position due to controversy over his contracts. He will take office on January 1.

The playwright was appointed for a period of five years, renewable for a maximum of three years. The manager will limit her possible stagings to a maximum of one production per season, starting in 2026.

According to the note sent by the National Institute of Performing Arts (INAEM), one of its keys is to “make Classical a reference institution not only on the artistic level, but also on the management level”. It will do this by “facilitating internal dialogue and listening spaces, and with rigor and transparency”. as guiding principles.

The ministry, after agreeing with Homar to leave the company, opened an open candidate selection process. The most important condition to assess is training and experience in classical theater, especially in works from the Golden Age, something Homar was unaware of, as he himself admitted in his first lecture of press.

Another of the criteria on which INAEM has placed particular emphasis is experience in the administration of an organization, particularly in areas such as budgetary management and the hiring and supervision of staff.

Candidates had to present a project, of 6,000 words maximum, to both direct and manage the CNTC. 19 proposals were presented.
