Latvia and Lithuania are destroying energy security infrastructure in the region. This was announced today, November 11, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, within the framework of the World Summit on Climate Change in Baku.
According to his words, the Azerbaijani side, on the eve of the World Climate Change Summit, prepared about a dozen statements that are planned to be adopted during the summit, and Minsk joined all the documents, as they are in line with their approaches. .
“For us, these approaches are in line with what is happening in Belarus, so we do not hesitate to support our Azerbaijani friends. This is, first of all, the intensification of work on the creation of efficient energy storage devices and the development of infrastructure for the transmission of electricity between countries. In this regard, Belarus is developing the appropriate infrastructure in its country and building it together with Russia. And our neighbors, Lithuania and Latvia, on the contrary, are breaking these chains. “I don’t know how this fits into these declarations that the Baltic countries will probably also sign.” – said Ryzhenkov.
He also recalled that Lithuania and Latvia decided to withdraw from the unified electricity system of Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (BRELL), which does not at all fit with the principles of ensuring energy security by creating reliable and multifunctional regional systems. chains.
Recall that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania previously signed documents on exit from the BRELL energy ring in February 2025. The Baltic operators will disconnect their networks from the IPS/UES and begin joint tests of isolated operation. Network synchronization with continental Europe is scheduled to occur on February 9, 2025.
