Sanchez suffers new resounding defeat in Congress for refusing to recognize Maduro’s defeat

The government of Pedro Sanchez suffered a new parliamentary defeat that shows its fragility in Congress, this time for having opposed the recognition of the defeat of the Nicolas Maduro during the presidential elections in Venezuela, in which the opposition published the minutes demonstrating the failure of the Chavista regime. The Lower House recognized Edmundo Gonzalez as elected president of Venezuela despite the blow from Maduro. This is an initiative presented by the PP and which was carried out 177 votes for. The PNV, Sánchez’s partner, joined this proposal among those of Alberto Nuñez Feijoo.

Neither Sánchez nor the other ministers of his executive have so far recognized the victory of the Venezuelan opposition against Maduro. The socialists are demanding that the Chavista regime publish the minutes of the elections that took place in Venezuela on July 28. The popular promoted this initiative for the “defense of democracy in Venezuela” and with the aim of recognizing “the victory of Edmundo González,” who is now in Spain after the government granted him political asylum, but not as the elected president of Venezuela.

During the debate on this non-law proposal of the PP, which took place this Tuesday in the chamber, they were present in the guest gallery Caroline Gonzalezdaughter of Edmundo González, accompanied by Antonio Ledezmaformer mayor of Caracas, and other exiles like Leopoldo Lopez. The deputy spokesman of the PP, Cayetana Alvarez of Toledowas tasked with defending this initiative, ensuring that contempt “what the minutes say”González’s victory, as the government of Pedro Sánchez and its partners are doing, is “an attack on reality.”

In her speech, the spokesperson for the popular He stressed that “as long as there is a single Venezuelan willing to raise the flag of freedom, to risk his life for democracy, to take over, there will be hope“And there are many of them,” he warned, addressing the government bench. “They can break a man, a hundred, a thousand, but they can never break the cause. Nor an unbreakable woman, Maria Corina Machadoa woman to whom the feminist movement, if it were not so sectarian, would erect a monument, the most courageous, the heroine of the 21st century,” she stressed.

“The dictatorship will not find Spanish indifference as an ally“Your cause is our cause, there are no moral or ideological boundaries. It is a battle between civilization and barbarism and we will fight it until the definitive liberation of Venezuela,” added the PP deputy.

“Margin of Mediation”

For his part, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, affirms that his executive is working for a “common position” within the European Union regarding the situation in Venezuela, but continues to refuse to recognize the defeat of Nicolas Maduro. The socialist leader defends having a “mediation margin” with the Latin American country. He also attacked the PP for its “inconsistencies”after promoting in Congress the recognition of Edmundo González as president-elect of Venezuela.

This is how Sánchez expressed himself this Wednesday during an appearance before the media in China, where he is on an official trip. The leader of the Executive was asked if he would respond to the request of the Congress of Deputies, which is asking by majority that the government recognize González – who is in asylum in Spain – as president of Venezuela.

Sanchez insists, “on the political side”to the extent that what his government has been doing since the Venezuelan elections has been to request the publication of the minutes and to work for the unity of the EU “so that this unity allows us to have a margin of mediation by the end of the year, so that we can find an outcome that reflects the democratic will expressed in the elections by the Venezuelan people.

The President of the Government considers that this position is “pure common sense”and accuses the opposition of systematically opposing government initiatives.

“When I listen to the opposition, well, it’s like always, It’s saying no to everything the government does.“anything, anywhere and no matter who. If we seek asylum, why do we seek asylum? If we do not seek asylum, why do we not do it? In short, I believe that they remain naked in their incongruity,” concluded Sánchez.
