Junts threaten to block budgets if fiscal pact with government does not change

Junts has once again challenged the government at a key moment for the approval of the general state budgets. Diada completeThe training led by Carles Puigdemont warned that will not support either the deficit trajectory or the budget agreement agreed between the PES and the ERC if there are no substantial changes in the conditions. The parliamentary spokesperson of Junts, Míriam Nogueras, stressed that the Catalan quota proposed by the executive is “insufficient” and demanded greater control over the income and expenditure of Catalonia.

“If you think that we fight for independence to end up being satisfied with a few expenses, you still haven’t understood how we act”Nogueras said in the Congress of Deputies. In his speech, the spokesman severely criticized the government’s tax proposal and accused the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, of “lying” by claiming that the path to stability benefits all the autonomous communities. According to Nogueras, Catalonia would receive barely 100 million euros, a “derisory” amount compared to the 35 billion that the central Executive keeps.

The situation has further complicated the prospects of the government, which depends on the seven votes of the juntas to execute the budgets. Although Montero has tried to redirect the situation and asked the pro-independence party to “reconsider” its position, Nogueras has reiterated that Without fundamental changes in the fiscal pact, Junts will maintain its opposition.

This blockade represents a new obstacle for the Executive, which had already suffered a setback in July, when Junts rejected first deficit trajectory proposalThe Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, has held meetings with Nogueras to try to find a solution, but so far no agreement is in sight.

The fiscal pact, which will be finalized through a reform of the Organic Law of Financing of the Autonomous Communities (LOFCA), continues to be one of the main obstacles for Junts. “We want total control over Catalonia’s income and expenditure”Nogueras insisted, specifying that the government could face a definitive blockade if it did not accept their demands.
