Gaza war: Egyptian president makes controversial statement

At a joint press conference with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi stressed that “hunger is being used as a weapon against the Palestinians, and this is very dangerous.”

Without mentioning Israel directly, he also said that what was happening was “a flagrant violation of human rights that is happening before our eyes and we have not been able to do anything about it.” In addition, Sisi said that there is “the importance of achieving a ceasefire and developing a mechanism that will help ensure the flow of more humanitarian aid, as well as the release of hostages, as well as discussing the post-war phase.”

Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi stressed the importance of Europe’s active role in promoting a ceasefire and expressed Egypt’s readiness to have a positive influence on the resolution of the conflict. He noted that his country seeks to cooperate with the Palestinian side and Hamas, including in coordination with Qatar and the United States.

The Egyptian president has expressed his intention to increase pressure on the various warring parties to end the fighting as soon as possible.

Previously, Cursor wrote that in an interview, Lt. Col. Eli Dekel, a former intelligence officer with deep knowledge of Egypt, commented on the question of how interested Egypt is in weakening the position of the Hamas terrorist organization.

This country not only played a key role in supporting the creation of the fedayeen, but also had a great influence on the formation of the Fatah movement, actively participating in its formation and development.

Cursor also reported that Egypt has expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of humanitarian aid delivery to the Gaza Strip and has invited Israel to take over the financing of supplies to the region, Kan public radio reported, citing one of the Egyptian officials.
