The Valencia Municipal Orchestra is preparing a season with 30 concerts, tributes to maestro Padilla, Puccini and García Asensio and the first recital for Women’s Day

THE Municipal Symphony Orchestra This year, Valencia will offer a total of 28 concerts for all types of audiences, corresponding to the 2024-2025 season, presented today under the theme “Without Borders”. The Councilor for Culture, Jose Luis Morenoannounced this Wednesday the new season of musical training, accompanied by the director of the Palau de la Música, Vicent Llimera, and by the artistic director of the musical training, Cristóbal Soler. In fact, from this season, the Group will have its permanent rehearsal space at the Palau de la Música, a space that hosted the presentation of the new musical season.

Most of the shows are part of the regular programme of the Sala Iturbi, but in addition, four concerts will be offered in the gardens of the Palau de la Música, three outdoors in different neighbourhoods and four extraordinary concerts on the occasion of the festival of the Corpus Christi of the Virgin of the Abandoned and a visit to the town of Buñol. The presentation took place in the presence of numerous professors from the BSMV, as well as the trumpeter Pacho Flores, who will participate in the opening concert of the season, and also the maestro Enrique García Asensio, to whom a tribute will be paid on 24 November.

The season begins on Thursday, September 19

The advisor for cultural action, heritage and cultural resources, Jose Luis Morenohighlighted the different styles and aesthetics and the participation of high-level soloists, both locally, nationally and internationally, during the 24-25 season. This is the first time that the complete BSMV program is presented, in an expression that “aims to reflect the unique character of the group,” in the words of the mayor.

The season opens on Thursday, September 19, with the opening concert of the 2024-2025 academic year, which will feature the pieces Aires gitans by Pablo Sarasate, Stupéfiante Trompette by Giancarlo Castro and the Symphony of the New World by Antonín Dvorák. The concert will be conducted by the principal conductor of the Municipal Music, Cristóbal Soler, and the participation of trumpeter Pacho Flores is expected.

On September 24, the Municipal music will participate in the Ensems Festival with three absolute premieres. The pasodoble In the second part of the concert, the piece Music for Prague 1968 by Karel Husa will be performed. To end the month of September, the municipal orchestra goes to Buñol to offer a show with the Symphony of the New World by Antonín Dvorák, Goya by Julián Palanca, Katiuska by Pablo Sorozábal and El barberillo de Lavapiés by Francisco Barbieri.

The season will continue with the group’s participation in the Mostra de Valencia-Mediterranean Cinemawhere he will perform pieces by Mancini and Bernstein, and the commemorative concert on October 9. There will also be two performances to celebrate the Puccini year and a tribute to Enrique García Asensio directed by García Asensio himself.

He Christmas concert This year there will be the collaboration of the Juan Bautista Comes Choir and, in January, there will be a monographic concert of waltzes, polkas and pasodobles. The group also celebrates this year International Women’s Day with a concert scheduled for March 9 under the direction of Isabel Rubio. A family concert, the participation of the group in the Palau Organ Series and the closing of the International Music Orchestra Competition are also some of the performances scheduled this year.

In addition, with the arrival of spring, the musical group celebrates the cycle again in the gardens of the Palau with a tribute to Concha Piquer, a concert of soundtrack music, tuba music and the centenary of the pasodoble of the maestro “Valencia Padilla”, included in the zarzuela La bien amada.

The BSMV, a bridge to our musical heritage

The group’s artistic director, Christophe Solerdetailed the proposals that make up the new programming and highlighted the participation of renowned soloists, such as the trumpeter Pacho Flores, the percussionists Javier Eguillor and Conrado Moya, the flautist Paco Varoch, the trombonist David Pont and the singers Diana Navarro i Xavi de Bétera, as well as local vocal groups such as the Choir of the Cathedral, the Juan Bautista Comes Children’s Choir, as well as chamber groups and guest directors, such as Enrique García Asensio, José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana, Isabel Rubio or Vicent Balaguer.

Soler highlighted “the importance of music as an invaluable cultural heritage” and highlighted “the role of the Valencia Municipal Symphony Orchestra as a bridge to our musical heritage.”

Finally, the director of the Palau, Vicent Llimerá, expressed his satisfaction with the presence of the BSMV at the Palau de la Música, where, he assured, “its rehearsal space and concert hall are located.”
