The intensive care unit at Center La Manche hospital sounded the alarm after he was admitted with serious injuries without their origin being clear.
The National Police arrested in Alcázar de San Juan the parents of a three-month-old baby whom they allegedly regularly abused, causingserious injuries to the skull and spinal cord. The investigation began after the pediatric intensive care unit at the Central General Hospital of La Manche treated the newborn for serious injuries whose origin was unclear.
Officers’ investigations confirmed that the baby had been subjected to a situation of habitual abuse within the family (domestic violence) on the part of both parents, according to the press release. Apparently they had subjected him to shaken or agitated baby syndromewith violent shocks in which the repetitive impact of the baby’s brain with the walls of the skull can lead to brain problems, retinal bleeding and even spinal cord injuries in the neck due to the excessive weight of the head.
