THE Day of this September 11thSalvador Illa’s first place at the head of the Generalitat of Catalonia has two essential keys: the division of a broken independence movement and the strong criticism against Illa and against ERC for having named him president.
The ANC mobilizations in Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona and Lleida have barely managed to gather people this year Around 70,000 participants, a far cry from the mass demonstrations of the Diada which was called years ago by process.
This year, some of the banners held by the participants attracted attention. In addition to the typical “independence” songs, this Diada was carried by banners criticizing the regime. CFP and the new president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa. Also against MRC for facilitating his inauguration: “He who supports 155 does not deserve to be our president,” one of them said very significantly. Moreover, the organizers of the Diada demonstrations were not spared from this criticism either: “ANC, Òmnium, cowardly policies” reads another.
The calls brought together these participants:
- Girona: around 6,500 people, according to local police figures.
- Lérida: around 3,000 people, according to figures from the Local Police, and 8,000, according to the organisation.
- Tarragona: around 2,800 people, according to the Urban Police.
- Barcelona: around 60,000 people, according to the city police.
The president of the ANC, Lluís Llach, assured when reading the manifesto that the entities will put themselves at the service of the independence movement to “convey” the movement and advance its demands.
This is how he expressed himself at the closing of the demonstration of the pro-independence entities of the Diada in Barcelona, where he thanked the work of the organizing entities: ANC, Òmnium, AMI, Consell de la República (CdRep), Intersindical, Ciemen and CDR.
Llach made special mention of the CDR and criticized the fact that the “Spanish repression” does not want to apply the amnesty law to them and persecutes them cruelly, in his own words.
