Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has suggested abolishing borders between Islamic countries, following the example of the countries of the European Union.
Oku.Az Tashim news agency reported on this.
Pezeshkian raised this idea during his official visit to Baghdad. He stressed that there is a long history of friendship between Iran and Iraq, and this friendship can form the basis of the future union of the Islamic states.
According to Pezeshkian, the unification of the countries will neutralize foreign sanctions and also help fight “Zionist terrorism.” In addition, it will strengthen political, economic, social and cultural ties.
In response, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid said that countries in the Islamic world should stop using the US dollar in trade. He also welcomed the expansion of cooperation with Iran on various issues.
