North Korea ratified the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty with Russia

The DPRK ratified the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement with Russia, Voice of Korea radio station reports.

“By decree of the President of State Affairs of the DPRK, the “Comprehensive Agreement on Strategic Partnership between the DPRK and the Russian Federation” concluded in Pyongyang on June 19, 2024, was ratified. – says the message.

It is clarified that the decree was signed on November 11.

On October 9, the President of Russia signed the law on ratification of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Russia and the DPRK Vladimir Putin.

The leaders of the two countries approved this document on June 19 during Putin’s visit to Pyongyang. It should replace the basic Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborhood and Cooperation between Russia and the DPRK of February 9, 2000.

The new agreement will enter into force on the date of the exchange of the instruments of ratification and will have an unlimited duration.

The fourth article of the treaty stipulates that if one of the participants is subjected to an armed attack by another state or several countries and is in a state of war, the other participant will immediately provide military and other assistance using all means available. This is provided for in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and in the legislation of Russia and the DPRK.

In addition, according to the eighth article, the parties create mechanisms to carry out joint activities in order to strengthen defense capabilities in order to prevent war, as well as ensure regional and international peace and security, RIA Novosti reminds.
