The Crimean parliament of the new convocation has received a proposal from Russian President Vladimir Putin with three candidates for the post of head of the republic, including the current head of the region Sergei Aksenov, the secretary of the regional branch of United Russia, a member of which, the speaker of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, told RIA Novosti.
“We have received a proposal from President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin for the head of the republic. We are talking about three candidates. Among them is the current head Sergei Aksenov, as well as representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and the New People Party.” – said Konstantinov.
According to him, the United Russia faction, which won a majority in the republic’s parliament in the new convocation, will support Aksenov’s candidacy.
“Of course we will support Sergei Aksenov, there is no secret in this. This is our Crimean leader, one of the respected politicians in the country.” – Konstantinov stressed.
The third round of elections to the Crimean parliament took place on September 6-8. According to the results, United Russia received 68 seats, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Communist Party of the Russian Federation received three seats, and Just Russia – For Truth received one seat. United Russia will form the majority in the new round. According to the Crimean Constitution, within 45 days the new parliament will elect the head of the region from among three candidates proposed by the Russian president. The head of Crimea is elected for a five-year term. Since 2014, the region has been headed by Aksenov.
