The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia and the United States is found in Malaysia as the regional ASEAN forum

Moscow – Russian Foreign Minister (Minister of Foreign Affairs) Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United States Marco Rubio met on the sidelines of the ASEAN forum in Malaysia on Thursday (7/7/2025). This news was declared the US State Department.

Lavrov and Rubio have been talking several times on the phone since US President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, but only once in Saudi Arabia in February. The first meeting was part of the contact aimed at normalizing relations between the two countries.

The schedule of meetings, published on the website of the foreign department, included a meeting between Rubio and Lavrov planned in Kuala Lumpur, where they were both attended by the Forum of the Regional Association of the Countries of Southeast Asia (ASEAN).

Negotiations between the two diplomats took place at 18:00 local time (10:00 on Greenwich), according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

“I can confirm that the meeting is planned,” said TASS representative of the Ministry of Russia Maria Zakharova on Thursday.

Earlier this week, Trump criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, accused him of not wanting to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. “We got a lot of nonsense that Putin abandoned,” the US leader said.

“Putin is very good all the time, but it does not make sense to stop the battle,” Trump said.
