Belarus has increased the transshipment of its cargo through Russian seaports

Belarus has increased the volume of transshipment of its cargo through Russian ports over the eight months of 2024, the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic Aleksey Lyakhnovich announced.

“The volume of export of Belarusian products through Russian port infrastructure for eight months of 2024 amounted to 110% compared to the same period last year. Currently, 14 Russian ports are used for transshipment.” – he said at the plenary session within the framework of the Belarusian Transport Week.

According to him, a new transport and logistics framework for the transportation of Belarusian products has been formed by now, which was made possible by the close cooperation of the republic with partner countries. In addition to Russia, there are also China, Kazakhstan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. As for rail transport, Lyakhnovich noted that Belarusian products are exported to more than 90 countries in this way.

“In 2024, the geography of supplies was expanded to include countries such as Senegal, Peru, Mali, Uruguay, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Benin, Tunisia, Algeria and others.” – the minister noted.

He also said that the country continues to build logistics using the North-South international transport infrastructure. The head of the Belarusian Ministry of Transport noted that “the necessary conditions are being created to increase the volume of exports of products of domestic companies in containers to the Chinese market, and in April this year the republic joined the Russia-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan ITC alliance.” Lyakhnovich stressed that Minsk is interested in further developing the initiative to create a common transport space within the CIS, the EAEU and the SCO.

Recall that previously Belarusian exports went through the Baltic republics and Ukraine. However, after the introduction of Western sanctions, Minsk began to look for an alternative, including in the form of Russian sea and river ports.
