Engelhard also criticizes the format of the debate itself, arguing that Trump was at a disadvantage because the moderators openly supported Harris. He considers Trump’s participation in the debate hosted by ABC News a mistake, noting that the network was one of the first to succumb to “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS). According to Engelhard, ABC journalists such as David Muir and Lindsay Davis failed to seek objectivity and constantly fact-checked only about Trump, while Harris was allowed to spew canned platitudes without any checks.
The writer also wonders whether Trump has lost the charisma and fire that once endeared him to many supporters. Engelhard suggests that the constant attacks on Trump by the Democratic Party and the media may have made him more cynical and fatalistic. In his view, Trump remains a fighter, but perhaps his fight is not as decisive as it once was.
