To date, 34 countries have expressed their desire to join BRICS. This was announced today, September 12, by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is taking part in a meeting of senior representatives of the BRICS countries in charge of security issues, held at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg.
“Dear colleagues, dear friends, I welcome you all to St. Petersburg. Thank you for being here in the northern capital of Russia. Let me remind you in this regard that it was here, in St. Petersburg, in these very halls that the foundation of the creation of the BRICS was laid.” – Putin said.
Putin said that the leaders of Russia, India and China met and agreed to hold regular meetings at the highest level, as well as in some other areas. This is how the RIC was created, which included Russia, India and China.
“And then all this developed accordingly, and today I have the privilege and pleasure of greeting all the participants, the senior representatives of the BRICS countries responsible for security issues.” – added the head of state.
According to Putin, the plan for Russia’s presidency in the BRICS has already been completed by more than 70%, around 150 events, meetings, industrial forums have been held, and most of the expert and ministerial meetings have been held.
At the same time, 34 federal states expressed their desire to participate in one way or another in the activities of the association.
