In the Green zone of COP29 they talked about the leadership of local youth in biodiversity and climate action.
Oku.Az reports that on the second day of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which took place in Baku on November 12, a panel on “Guardians of the Earth: Local youth leadership in biodiversity and climate action.
Vincent Diringer, Whitney Melinard, Nigel Maduro and Priyanka Pandey, young local leaders from the Caribbean Climate Justice Leadership Academy (CCJLA), who are pioneering efforts to protect biodiversity in their communities, spoke on the panel.
Young leaders who are in close contact with nature as protectors of the natural environment provided information about their activities related to climate and biodiversity, and shared their knowledge in this direction. Panelists shared their experiences on community conservation issues, focusing on the intersection of cultural heritage and biodiversity conservation. They also highlighted the challenges their communities face due to climate change, such as biodiversity loss, displacement and ecological degradation, and the role of local wisdom in addressing these challenges.
