Relations with Iran are developing dynamically, we are waiting for President Pezeshkian in Kazan – EADaily, September 12, 2024 – Politics News, Russia News

Relations between Russia and Iran are developing rapidly. The Russian side is expecting the country’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, at the BRICS summit in Kazan in October. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin today, September 12, during a meeting with Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Ahmadian in St. Petersburg.

“In recent years, friendly relations between Russia and Iran have gained additional momentum, all of this happening largely with the support of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,” Putin said. “We appreciate that cooperation with Russia remains a priority for the team of the new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, and we are waiting for him in Kazan on October 22-24 for the BRICS summit.”

Ali Ahmadian conveyed greetings from the Supreme Leader of Iran as well as the new President Masoud Pezeshkian, stressing that there had been no change in the approaches to the development of relations with Russia by the new leadership of Iran.

During the conversation, the Russian leader said that Russia and Iran have many important and interesting issues for cooperation. Trade turnover between Russia and Iran in the first six months of 2024 increased by almost 10%. Priority projects of cooperation between Russia and Iran include the development of the North-South corridor. The work of the intergovernmental commission is in demand and Russia is waiting for Iran to nominate a candidate for its chairmanship.

“I would like to confirm once again that we are determined to move forward in all these directions.” – Putin said.

At the same time, he announced plans to hold a separate meeting with Masoud Pezeshkian at the BRICS summit in Kazan:

“I think we’ll find time for a separate two-way conversation.”

On the Russian side, the Secretary of the Security Council participated in today’s meeting Sergei Shoigu.
