European and Arab flights boost arrivals in Malaga

The infrastructure closed last month with 2,652,017 passengers and 18,083 flights, two records that place it as the best August in the history of these facilities. In relation to passengers, the figure experienced a rebound of 9.6% compared to the same date in 2023. This positive balance, which shows a daily average of85,548 travelers at the airportis due to the dynamism maintained by both national and foreign traffic.

The majority of registered users travelled on commercial flights (excluding general and business aviation), amounting to 2,646,020. Of these, 424,358 travelled to or from a Spanish city (5.3% more than a year earlier), while 2,221,662 chose foreign relations (+10.7%).

Regarding international traffic, the most demanded markets in absolute terms were andl British (644,776 passengers) and, with a little more distance, German (217,810), French (172,912), Dutch (135,690) and Italian (135,690). Due to the rate of increase, those of Qatar, Croatia and Romania (the number of travellers doubled in each of them), followed by the Czech Republic (68.6%), Greece (+59.4%) and Poland (+58%).

Regarding operations, Malaga-Costa del Sol airport was served last month 18,083 flightswhich represents an increase of 6.7% compared to August 2023. Among these movements, 17,770 corresponded to commercial connections: 3,470, national (+3.6%) and 14,300, international (+8%).

Summer data

With August data closed, summer 2024 – June 1 to August 31 – is consolidated as the best of history from Málaga-Costa del Sol airport, which was helped by the absence of significant operational disruptions.

The positive evolution of traffic in August favored the balance of the first eight months of 2024, where they passed through the airport 16,805,416 passengers12.6% more than the same period last year.

Of the 16,766,105 users who traveled on commercial flights, 2,868,970 had their origin or destination in the national territory (+6.5%) and 13,897,135 (+14%), abroad. Between January and August, 117,270 landings and takeoffs were managed, 8.6% more compared to the first eight months of 2023.
