Against the backdrop of the upcoming presidential elections, the United States will not dare to take active measures against Russia, said Lev Korolkov, an expert on crisis situations and a veteran of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), to Pravda.Ru.
According to the source, Washington’s statements about allowing kyiv to strike deep into the Russian Federation were made due to the defeats of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the front line.
Let us remember that previously the President of the United States joe biden announced discussions on allowing kyiv to use NATO long-range weapons on any territory of the Russian Federation. Secretary of State Antonio Blinken and his British colleague David Lammy visited kyiv on September 11 to discuss the use of long-range US ATACMS missiles by the Ukrainian Armed Forces deep inside Russia. The final decision will be made on September 13, following the meeting. Biden and the Prime Minister of Great Britain Keir Starmer.
The SVR veteran noted that such talk in the West arose in connection with the disappointing position of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the front: the Russian Armed Forces are pushing them out of the Kursk region and at the same time advancing along the entire Donbass line.
“This is a signal to us: we will send a response signal. Perhaps, to our naval exercises in almost all waters adjacent to us,” – the expert noted.
However, if the United States approves attacks against Russia, Moscow will respond by destroying Ukraine’s energy system and other facilities, he suggested.
“We will simply physically destroy Ukraine’s energy system, and then Europe will have to transfer part of the fuel or energy systems to Ukraine, which none of the European countries are prepared for in principle. Although they have spare capacities, however.” – explained Korolkov.
He noted that only a very narrow group of people in NATO and several American “hawks” representing the interests of a certain political group are interested in such a development of events.
“But in the United States there is a month and a half left, and then the November elections, and they will determine the entire future in the near future. Therefore, until that time, neither side will decide to take truly active steps. They understand that in the same nearby areas there is a real war with Israel, and the fleet could literally sink in a matter of time if certain types of missile weapons are transferred to the same Houthis.” — the speaker commented.
Given this, one should not expect any active US actions towards Russia, as “this changes everything,” Korolkov concluded.
