This week begins a new school year that is always special, especially for those who are starting university this year. Taking the step towards higher education and doing what in theory will allow us to dedicate ourselves to what we like most in the future, is an essential step in the lives of many young people.
And those who run the various universities know this. That is why this Thursday the rector of the University of Valladolid (UVA)Antonio Largo Cabrerizo, visited the different faculties of the institution to welcome the new members of the institution.
He did so accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Jose Maria Fernandezand while both were excited about the course opening, they also wanted to send a message to anyone entering university for the first time.
Regarding the levels, both wanted to emphasize that they arrive “with all the excitement, but also with nervousness and uncertainty”, and immediately after, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine sent a less than optimistic message on the job prospects that await many people once they have obtained their degrees and those who will follow them.
Fernandez believes that in a few years the current shortage of doctors will no longer be as great and it will therefore be more difficult to find work: “In ten years the panorama will change radically and there will be no shortage of doctors,” he said.
For this reason, accessing medicine is an exhaustive process, also because of “complexity and cost” what this career entails, but Fernandez reiterated on the future prospects: “It’s sad, but that’s how it is, we can’t deceive the students.”
