The new schools in Madrid will have a split day and an attempt will be made to reverse continuity in those that currently have it.

Madrid does not want schools to have split days. The OECD has warned against this modality, and the regional government wants to work in this direction. For this reason, all new public schools that open their doors are now continuous. In addition, no school will be able to change whether or not it will have this split schedule. And we will try to ensure that those who work from start to finish return next year.

This was announced by the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, during the debate on the state of the region. Among the specific measures he indicated was that the new nursery and primary schools will also teach the 1st and 2nd ESO, “because we want these first stages of childhood to be more protected.” And they will have a split day,” he added.

Furthermore, he stressed that “we will try with the educational community to ensure that all nursery and primary schools authorized to also teach ESO, so that up to the 2nd year of ESO, are split-day.”

On the other hand, “no school will be able to switch from part-time to full-day from next year.”

The president also added that schools from the 3rd year that already have intensive courses “will offer new activities so that students without resources or alternatives can continue more hours at school.”

Although there has always been great controversy surrounding this type of continuous day, it is now the most used in the vast majority of public schools. However, some experts reject this possibility because they believe that it particularly harms children with fewer resources.

In addition, he indicated that primary schools will also teach studies up to the 2nd year of ESO.

Social policies

The President has listed an almost endless list of measures that she wants to implement in all areas of her government. The ones concerning social policies are very notable. For example, they will build 40 new retirement homes for 9,000 people. And also, for the first time, places are being provided in retirement homes for disabled children, so that parents and children can be together. A register of wishes will also be created so that parents of disabled children can organize their future care in case of absence.

Another announcement is the opening of the first center for sexual assaults on men in Madrid. And it will focus on men who suffered this type of violence in their childhood, as well as those who suffer it because of chemical sexual practices.

The regional government intends to develop a law on the defense of taxpayers and will also launch a digital training program for professionals in the tourism sector.

In terms of health, in addition to the new screening for cardiac pathologies that will be carried out in primary care, and that ABC announced yesterday, the president announced that she will open a new center for quadriplegics at the Virgen de Poveda Hospital.

BIC to urban culture

To pay tribute to the cultural movements that have taken place in Madrid from the 15th century to the present day, the Madrid president announced that she would declare the Golden Age, the Silver Age and urban culture as BIC, in its Intangible Heritage category.

In the Golden Age, let us remember, Madrid was the epicenter of enormous literary wealth, with neighborhoods like Las Letras where Lope de Vega, Cervantes and Calderón de la Barca lived together. The Silver Age developed at the time when the Free Education Institution or the Student Residence operated in Madrid and was the epicenter of the generations of ’98 and ’27.

In terms of urban culture, the streets of Madrid have become informal spaces for the creations of urban artists such as Muelle, Suso 33, Sfhir or Zeta.

Metro, last mile

In terms of transportation, Metro will join the logistics sector with the “Last Mile” project, which will allow the transport of goods on commuter trains. In this way, Ayuso justified, pollution and traffic jams in large cities will be reduced, and the surface movement of about 5,000 packages per day will be avoided.

The measure will begin as a pilot project in the coming days at Metrosur and will be extended to line 3 from the last quarter of the year. Of course, the packages will not travel with the users, but will circulate in special convoys, which will run at different times from those of the service.

The head of the Madrid Executive wants to deepen the use of Artificial Intelligence, and she will do so by integrating it into the early care of children with disabilities or at risk of suffering from them, or with other developmental disorders. For them, robots will be used that will lead gaming sessions and other actions that improve their concentration. Free courses on AI will also be offered to 100,000 young people between the ages of 16 and 26.

Interactive Center for Victims

Díaz Ayuso also announced the creation of an Interactive Memory Center, in memory of the victims of terrorism, which will have a permanent program to defend and disseminate democratic values. It will be located in the vicinity of the Royal Post Office.
